FUNDRAISING

Getting children and young people involved in supporting a charity is a great way to teach them the importance of giving back to their local community, from an early age. All the money raised through our fundraising activities is directed into our work supporting young people, and it really does make a difference.

We’ve come up with a few ideas that you might want to do or alternatively let children and young people come up with their own great ideas. Don’t forget to visit our Fundraising FAQs to find out how to create the perfect JustGiving page here.

Dress up days

Talk to your local nursery school or primary school and ask them to do a dress up day

Helm asking nurseries and primary schools to fundraise for us by holding a ‘Dress up as your dream job’ day!  The aim of the day is to raise money and awareness about our life-saving work.

Nurseries and primary schools can choose to hold their dress-up day whenever works for them.  Helm would appreciate organisations running the day to run it as a fundraiser and encourage donations from parents and carers.  Every penny raised through this project will go directly towards our work with young people from Tayside.

If you register, as a thank you for your support, we’ll send nurseries/schools:

  • An activity pack for the children to do in the run-up to the event.
  • An A4 poster to stick up on their noticeboard, and a digital copy to distribute to parents online where needed.
  • Stickers and certificates to give to their ‘young professionals’ on the day
  • Some guidance about running the day with some creative ideas and activities they can use

Do a sponsored walk

Get together as a family to take part in a sponsored walk.  Choose your route and the distance that you want to travel, then get sponsored for each mile you complete.  It’s a great way to spend time together as a family and raise money for a good cause.

Swimathon

If your children love the water, why not ask them to take part in a Swimathon to support us.   They can pick the distance they want to swim depending on their ability and you can either take part with them or cheer them on from the sidelines.

Sell cookies and cupcakes

The perfect fundraiser for young budding bakers!  First see if their school or a local event will let you host a stand.  Then get your aprons on a bake up a feast of cookies and cupcakes to sell to raise vital funds to support us.

Ebay old books, clothes and toys

If you’re having a clear out and getting rid of old toys, books and clothes, why not consider putting them on Ebay and donating the money raised to us?  Your children will love knowing that the money raised will be helping people in need, plus you’ll get some much needed cupboard space back!

Sponsored Silence

A fundraiser designed with parents and carers in mind!  Ask your child to take part in a sponsored silence.  They can get sponsored by the minute or the hour (depending on how optimistic you are!)

Run a talent show

A fundraiser for all the shining stars out there.  Coordinate a talent show and ask children to showcase their singing, dancing, music and comedic skills.  Charge for tickets and donate the funds to us.  In this post-Covid world, children have missed out on so many ‘in-person’ events and this is a great way to give them an opportunity to shine, while supporting us.
