The Look-See Visit

When a student considers Helm as a destination, or a staff member recommends them to us, we encourage them to come for a visit that will allow them get a "feel" for the place.  During their visit, they will have the opportunity to meet the staff and ask as many questions as they want.  It also allows the staff to assess how we can best tailor our programme to the specific needs and goals of the students.

Students are referred by a staff team member from school and the relationship with Helm will usually start well before their first day with us.  Helm staff visit the schools to speak to students and ensure that they have an understanding of what we are able to offer them.  We ask that all Pathways referrals are accompanied by contact information for any other statutory or voluntary agency that supports the student as they transition from school.  Close links are maintained with schools during a pupil's time at Helm to ensure progression after the age of 16 is shared with all the relevant partners.

Employability Fund

Students on the Employability Fund are referred via Skills Development Scotland, their school guidance teacher or through self-referral.  Schools who want to refer 16+ students onto this stream can contact their school's Careers Advisor to arrange an appointment.  For EF 3, the guidance staff or pupil can contact our Employment Liaison Officer directly - phone 01382 224464 and ask to speak to Laura Adam.
