Who are Helm?
Helm specialise in enabling young people to make their best transition into adult life. We have been working in Dundee for over 30 years and work with over 200 young people every year. We work closely with Dundee and Angus College and Dundee University, who evaluate our practice, and we provide supervised learning placements for University students every year.
How do our students do?
We routinely treble engagement with disengaged pupils, and over 70% of all our students progress into either work, college or an apprenticeship (10% points above average for year ended March 2017). Our current S4 stage students are on target for 100% progression this year – a first for us, and we are so proud of them.
Who can come to Helm?
Students can join us as their first step after they have left school, and we have no upper age limit.
Our youngest students are currently aged 15 and have been assessed as benefitting from an alternative environment to mainstream education. These students often then build on early great relationships and progress to our senior employability programmes. All students are welcomed and our staff team are very experienced in positively engaging with students from all backgrounds, abilities, interests and support needs.
How can schools find out more?
Staff at Helm are happy to talk directly to school staff who just want more information at any time. We also welcome visits from pupils and staff. Just get in touch to arrange a visit for yourself or your pupils.
