Helm Young Parents' Employment (HYPE) project
Helm Young Parents' Employment (HYPE) project is the first project of its kind in the city which aims to give young parents, and in particular young mothers, the daily support and individual help they need to make the difficult transition towards getting back into work or moving into full-time training.
Currently the project, which runs in the afternoons at the Dundee centre caters to the needs of 16-24 year olds. The participants are given very personal support and encouraged to work towards SQA qualifications, Food Hygene, IT and other employability, vocational and core skills as well as independent living skills like budgeting and cooking that will make their lives easier in the future as working parents. A crèche is currently run Monday to Thursday afternoons with the support of the St Andrew's Project and Working for Families Dundee.
This training scheme now in its third year continues to attract large numbers of young parents and has strong links with other agencies.
