Over the last few years Helm has developed a range of vocational activities to offer young people the widest opportunities for training in the most realistic work environments. Our first vocational activity was an allotment project on The Law and from this point we have expanded into a wide range of activities including beauty and hair, mechanics, horticulture, childcare and catering and cooking - these have been called LIVE It! activities.
Over the last year, we have been delighted to have received the support of the Scottish Government's Third Sector Enterprise Fund to enable these activities to develop into 'enterprises' with clear identities of their own that can be promoted into the communities in which we work. We now have five clear enterprise areas where young people can learn foundation skills to enable them to 'trial' a career strand and in turn if they wish give them greater experience in that career area to benefit their job and college applications.
